Today Johann Johannsson left us. He was not only an outstanding composer and musician, but a gentleman of the highest order. I was lucky to mix three scores for him, Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival. He’s pictured here at RCP, reworking the arrangement to one of the cues on Prisoners with music editor Joseph DeBeasi, before I started on the mix. He was always editing and tinkering. It was so much fun. He’d say, “I just re-did some sounds, so let’s get rid of the top 10 tracks and replace them with what I’m about to send you. Do your thing and let’s see what happens.” It was very experimental and creative, which equals fun in my book. I’ll miss working along side him and our conversations during breaks (whenever we’d remember to take them).
very touching and respectful, as I would have expected from you, Daniel. Sorry for your loss.
